Fence post sawn, robinia, 18/24 cm2 x L: 200 cm
101-562
The use of Robinia (Robinia pseudoacacia) has a long and exciting history and the species is presently one of the principal constituents of Central and Eastern European forests – from where it is imported. Robinia posts have a high natural resistance to rot and fungal decay. Impregnation is therefore unnecessary. Tests have shown a durability of 30-40 years in contact with soil. The durability of Robinia fence posts is well documented in literature, ranging from 15-20 years to one example in Germany where a post has been in use for the last 75 years! Robinia is resistant to fungal decay because it contains a poisonous substance. As the concentration of this substance is highest in the bark, all posts are supplied debarked. The posts are completely non-hazardous to humans and Robinia wood is used for many purposes other than fence posts. The posts are bevelled at the top and pointed at the bottom.
Use:
Used as fence posts, Robinia posts have exceptional breaking strength and hardness. Posts which have been halved or quartered are thus often sufficient. As the wood is extremely hard, it is sometimes difficult to hammer nails or staples into the posts. Pre-drilling may therefore be necessary.
